Saint Xavier University's commitment to a well-rounded student experience begins at each student's entry to the University.
FOCUS, Freshman Orientation Centered on University Services, is a required two-day, overnight, summer orientation program for first-year students and their parents and provides an overview of University programs, policies and services. FOCUS offers first-year students the opportunity to meet with new classmates, current SXU students, academic advisors and faculty, and receive their first semester class schedules. New students also participate in the New Student Induction held prior to the start of classes in the fall semester. The ceremony serves to welcome students to the academic community and to allow them to experience a unique SXU tradition. To continue the transition into college, first-year students are enrolled in Transitions, a one-credit semester-long course to further pursue adaptation in University life from a variety of perspectives. The curriculum includes an introduction into the Saint Xavier University community, development of an appreciation of the broader culture of a university education, diversity, wellness and success strategies.
