The School for Continuing and Professional Studies at Saint Xavier University is designed for adult students to managetheir demanding lifestyle around their academic program. It provides a variety of opportunities for adults who are establishing new careers, completing a degree or enriching personal/professional development skills. There is flexible scheduling days, evenings and Saturdays to meet the busy lifestyle of adult students. The curriculum is structured in an accelerated and/or the traditional instructional format that promotes self-directed learning on the part of each student; it is designed to make the fullest possible use of students' personal and professional experience. Thus each student is viewed as a collaborator in both inquiry and reflection.
The assumptions and values underlying the regular curriculum at Saint Xavier University apply also to The School for Continuing and Professional Studies curriculum: it is a program of liberal studies designed to enhance the student’s ability to function as a free and responsible person.

Prior Learning
Evaluation and Acceptance of College Credit
Because many adults have transfer credit from other colleges, admission counselors are available to aid in the evaluation of credit, helping the returning student to determine how transfer credit can best be used toward a Saint Xavier University degree and what courses are needed to complete core and major areas of study. Official evaluation of transfer credit is done by the registrar.
American Council on Education (ACE) Credit
Saint Xavier University is a member of the American Council on Education (ACE). This membership allows adult students the opportunity to obtain academic credit from military and workplace training programs from organizations such as: business and industry, labor unions, professional and voluntary associations, technical and business schools, professional training suppliers, and government agencies. CLEP
Students may earn up to twenty-seven (27) college credits for certain designated courses through CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) or Department Challenge Examinations. The University requires a score of 50 on each exam title. Prior Learning Assessment
The School for Continuing and Professional Studies at Saint Xavier University recognizes that education can occur outside the classroom environment through work or personal experience. Students acquiring knowledge within a particular subject area other than attending formal college classes, such as job skills, military experiences, certifications, travel and personal interests. If such learning is determined to be on the college level, students may enroll in the Portfolio Development course (FOSEM 110) to receive instruction on documenting their non-collegiate-sponsored learning for credit. Remediation in Basic Skills Areas
College preparatory courses are available in English, chemistry and mathematics for students who need guided practice prior to entering college courses in these areas.
Adult Student Orientation
This program focuses on how adult students learn to balance their busy lifestyle with the responsibilities of college demands. Students will learn more about the academic and non-academic programs/services while developing relationships with staff, faculty and fellow students. This program is offered in the spring and summer semesters.
Individualized Academic Advising and Planning
Specialists in Advising and Educational Planning Services, as well as faculty advisers, are available to help plan a course of study to fit the lifestyle and varied responsibilities of the adult learner.
Flexible Scheduling of Classes
Day, evening and/or Saturday classes can be taken to accommodate the busy lifestyle of adult students. Classes are offered fall, spring and summer sessions.
