The bachelor of arts in professional studies program is offered at the Orland Park campus. It is a program structured in an accelerated format. This program is intended for students who have earned an associate of arts (A.A.) degree or associate of science (A.S.) degree or the equivalent of an associate degree. This program is also intended for students whose life experience and prior learning would allow them to be successful in an accelerated program and to complete self-directed, instructor-assisted research.
The bachelor of arts in professional studies program meets in eight-week class sessions, two days per week, in daytime hours. The program employs both face-to-face instruction and technology-enhanced instruction. Student's receive instructional materials and syllabi at the start of the program, allowing them to plan ahead and make use of the accelerated format. Student's are carefully advised at the commencement of enrollment in the program to determine all requirements for degree completion. Student's participate in counseling workshops and seminars specific to their concentration and create an e-portfolio to document and showcase their learning and career history.
Student's are required to complete a minimum of 120 credit-hours for a bachelor of arts degree in professional studies. This includes 21 hours in an area of concentration (with a minimum grade of "C"), as well as one religious studies course, one philosophy course (PHIL 150), Mathematics (FOSEM 200), Interdisciplinary Seminar, and 13 credit-hours of professional studies core. The School for Continuing and Professional Studies provides the general education courses that are required for completion of the degree. Most students will also need at least 17 hours of electives to satisfy graduation requirements.
Student's may consider earning credit through college level examination placement (CLEP), portfolio credit for prior learning, or American Council on Education (ACE). Information about transfer credit, credit by examination and life experience/portfolio credit can be found in the general University policies sections of this catalog.
